Overview

The Sr. Director of Emergency Services & Preparedness works collaboratively with internal teams, external partners, and regulatory agencies to develop and sustain programs that uphold compliance, reduce risks, and safeguard the organization’s mission critical activities. The Sr. Director is a cornerstone in LifeLong Medical Care’s commitment to creating safe environments for staff, patients, and the community. Through robust planning, proactive measures, and ongoing education, this role ensures the organization’s ability to deliver high-quality care while safeguarding its people and assets.

 

This is a full time, exempt, benefit eligible, on-site position in Berkeley.

 

LifeLong Medical Care is a multi-site, Federally Qualified Health Center (FQHC) with a rich history of providing innovative healthcare and social services to a wonderfully diverse patient community. Benefits

Compensation: $155k - $175k/year. We offer excellent benefits including: medical, dental, vision (including dependent and domestic partner coverage), generous leave benefits including ten paid holidays, Flexible Spending Accounts, 403(b) retirement savings plan.

 

COVID-19 Vaccine Policy

In accordance with LifeLong Medical Care's commitment to provide and maintain a workplace that is free of known hazards, we have adopted a Mandatory COVID-19 Vaccine Policy to safeguard the health of our employees and their families; our patients and visitors; and the community at large from infectious diseases, that vaccinations may reduce. Responsibilities

The Sr. Director is responsible for creating, implementing, and maintaining comprehensive safety and security strategies that protect LifeLong Medical Care’s staff, patients, facilities, and resources. This role leads efforts to ensure organizational readiness for emergencies, foster a culture of safety, and manage site security operations across all locations.

Emergency Preparedness Plan 

  • Design, implement, and maintain LifeLong’s Emergency Preparedness Plan to ensure organizational readiness for natural disasters, public health crises, and other emergencies.
  • Conduct regular risk assessments to identify vulnerabilities and develop mitigation strategies.
  • Coordinate with local, state, and federal agencies to ensure alignment with emergency management protocols and resources.
  • Organize and lead emergency drills and simulations to validate the effectiveness of preparedness plans.

Crisis Management

  • Develop and oversee LifeLong’s crisis management framework, ensuring clear protocols and roles for leadership and staff during critical incidents.
  • Serve as the primary point of contact and decision-maker during emergencies, coordinating responses across departments and external partners.
  • Establish and maintain communication channels for timely updates and guidance during crises.
  • Document and evaluate crisis responses to identify lessons learned and opportunities for improvement.

Site Security Management 

  • Oversee the implementation of security measures across all LifeLong facilities, ensuring the safety of staff, patients, and visitors.
  • Collaborate with the Real Estate & Facilities team to assess security needs and deploy appropriate solutions, including surveillance systems, access controls, and physical security personnel.
  • Develop site specific security protocols tailored to the unique needs and risks of each location.
  • Investigate and respond to security incidents, ensuring corrective actions are taken to prevent recurrence.

Safety Training 

  • Develop and deliver comprehensive safety training programs for employees, contractors, and volunteers to promote a culture of safety and awareness.
  • Ensure all staff complete required safety training within established timelines, tracking compliance and performance metrics.
  • Provide specialized training for emergency response teams, site managers, and security personnel.
  • Update training materials regularly to reflect best practices and regulatory changes.

Qualifications

  • Leadership: Ability to inspire confidence and guide teams in safety and security initiatives.
  • Crisis Management: Skilled in making quick, sound decisions under pressure during emergencies.
  • Strategic Thinking: Capable of designing and implementing proactive plans that mitigate risks and enhance organizational resilience.
  • Collaboration: Effective in building partnerships with internal stakeholders and external agencies.
  • Attention to Detail: Meticulous in assessing risks, analyzing incidents, and maintaining compliance records.

Education & Experience 

  • Bachelor’s degree in safety management, emergency management, security administration, or a related field; advanced degree or certifications (e.g., Certified Safety Professional, Certified Emergency Manager) preferred.
  • Minimum of 10 years of experience in safety, security, or emergency management, preferably within a healthcare or nonprofit setting.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of safety regulations, emergency preparedness standards, and security best practices.
  • Experience managing security vendors, implementing safety protocols, and coordinating emergency response efforts.
  • Excellent communication, leadership, and problem-solving skills, with the ability to manage complex, high-pressure situations.
