Overview

The Director of Internal Communications & Events is a key leadership role responsible for creating, delivering, and overseeing communication strategies and internal events that foster engagement, alignment, and morale among LifeLong Medical Care’s employees. This role ensures that all staff, from senior leaders to frontline employees, feel informed, connected, and inspired to contribute to LifeLong’s mission. The Director ensures that LifeLong’s workforce is informed, engaged, and inspired to contribute to the organization’s success. By creating impactful communication strategies and delivering memorable events, this role drives a culture of alignment, transparency, and connection, strengthening LifeLong’s people and its mission to serve the community.

 

This is a full time, exempt, benefit eligible, on-site position in Berkeley.

 

LifeLong Medical Care is a multi-site, Federally Qualified Health Center (FQHC) with a rich history of providing innovative healthcare and social services to a wonderfully diverse patient community. Our patient-centered health home is a dynamic place to work, practice, and grow. We have over 15 primary care health centers and deliver integrated services including psychosocial, referrals, chronic disease management, dental, health education, home visits, and much, much more. Benefits

Compensation: $145k - $165k/year. We offer excellent benefits including: medical, dental, vision (including dependent and domestic partner coverage), generous leave benefits including ten paid holidays, Flexible Spending Accounts, 403(b) retirement savings plan.

Responsibilities

As the leader of internal communications and events, the Director plays a pivotal role in uniting LifeLong under a shared vision and culture. By crafting impactful messaging, managing meaningful events, and maintaining accessible communication platforms, this position ensures that LifeLong’s people remain at the heart of its mission. 

Internal Communications Leadership 

  • Develop and execute a comprehensive internal communications strategy to ensure all employees are informed and aligned with LifeLong’s mission, goals, and strategic priorities.
  • Oversee communication content for diverse leadership groups, including Senior Leadership Team (SLT), Providers Leadership Team, NonProviders Leadership Team, and Directors Leadership Team, tailoring messaging to meet each group’s unique needs.
  • Create and implement communication templates, policies, and guidelines that promote consistent, transparent, and engaging messaging across the organization.

Internal Events Management 

  • Lead the planning and execution of internal events, including quarterly town halls, morale building activities, and other organization wide gatherings that foster a sense of community and connection.
  • Develop event frameworks that celebrate achievements, communicate organizational priorities, and inspire staff to engage with LifeLong’s mission and values.
  • Collaborate with cross functional teams to ensure events are inclusive, meaningful, and aligned with organizational goals.

Content Development and Platforms 

  • Oversee the production of internal communication materials, including the monthly newsletter, ensuring timely, relevant, and engaging content.
  • Manage and curate content for the intranet site, ensuring it serves as a user-friendly platform for employees to access resources, updates, and organizational announcements.
  • Lead the creation of templates and guidelines for internal communications to promote consistency, clarity, and alignment across all messaging.

Employee Engagement and Morale 

  • Partner with HR and leadership to identify opportunities for morale boosting initiatives and recognition programs that celebrate employee contributions.
  • Drive programs that build organizational culture and foster a sense of belonging, collaboration, and alignment with LifeLong’s mission.
  • Collect and analyze employee feedback on communications and events, using insights to continuously improve engagement efforts.

Qualifications

  • Leadership: Ability to inspire and lead cross functional teams to execute complex communication and engagement initiatives.

Education & Experience 

  • Bachelor’s degree required; advanced degree in communications, marketing, organizational development, or related field preferred.
  • Minimum of 10 years of experience in internal communications, event management, or employee engagement, with at least 5 years in a senior leadership role.
  • Proven expertise in designing and executing internal communication strategies that align with organizational goals.
  • Experience leading employee engagement initiatives, including events, recognition programs, and morale building activities.
  • Strong project management skills with the ability to manage multiple priorities and deliver high-quality outcomes under tight deadlines.
  • Exceptional writing, editing, and storytelling skills.
  • Familiarity with intranet platforms, content management systems, and other internal communication tools
