The Lead Registered Dental Assistant position is a full-time, benefited opportunity. The ideal candidate is professional, organized and possesses excellent patient care skills with one or more years of experience. Experience working with children and bilingual English/Spanish is a plus! 


The Lead RDA will assist the dentist in all phases of dentistry, including taking diagnostic intra-oral x-rays, performing coronal polishing and prophylaxis. This position works at our Berkeley Dental Clinic and reports to the Center Manager and Dental Operations Manager.

  • The lead dental assistant; assists, advises and trains dental assistants on set of duties allowable by California Dental board. The lead dental assistant will train, and provide orientation of new dental assistant staff.
  • Serves as a resource for dental section in order to develop and maintain a team approach.
  • Maintains inventory of the minor equipment and procedure set ups.
  • Orders of supplies as needed. Ensures operatory and lab are properly stocked with supplies. Reviews supply order prior to submission to clinic manager
  • Is Responsible for the oversight of the sterilization ensuring that equipment are properly processed (debrided, placed in the ultrasonic, bagged and sterilized).
  • Ensures that all sterilization equipment is spore checked weekly
  • Ensure that there are enough instruments and hand pieces in the AM & PM .Responsible for instrument and surgical instrument review and replacement of broken instruments
  • Responsible for the hand piece maintenance and recording the information in a log.
  • Assures compliance that OSHA and Infection Control policies are adhered to per LMC infection control protocol. This includes DA infection control training, keeping MSDS current, and notifying supervision of all on the job injuries.
  • In conjunction with the clinic supervisor, lead Front desk clerk and Associate Dental Director in maintaining an efficient operating clinic. The Lead Dental Assistant works closely with all clinic providers (Dentists, Students, Hygienist, RDA’s and EF’s) to keep their patient flow on time.
  • Responsible for documenting, calling repair person, scheduling and following up on all dental equipment repairs.
  • Adherence of dental assistant chair/ room assignments - makes changes as necessary with permission of manager, associate dental director or lead dentist.
  • Supports manager by organizing activities in the dental section to maintain a constant smooth flow of operations. Responsible for Patient’s school forms; they will fill out the form and give the patient’s chart and form to the dentist for signature.
  • Assist the Lead Clerk in giving detailed explanation to patients on the Tx plan.
  • Attend clinical meetings as required.
  • Help dental clinic manger / dental director on yearly evaluation of other assistants.
  • Ensures that the assistants opening the clinic and close the clinic follow clinic infectioncontrol protocol.
  • Rotate assistants when needed so break are taken on time.
  • Inventories imaging sensors , ensure that proper radiographic protocols are followed
  • Other duties as assigned.


  • Ability to assist dentists in all phases of dentistry, and capable of taking diagnostic Intra-oral x-rays.
  • Knowledge of proper use of all dental material and dental equipment.
  • Strong organizational skills and self-motivation.
  • Ability to work unsupervised and work with people from a wide range of cultural backgrounds and age groups.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Computer literacy including use of Word, Excel and Outlook.
  • Maintains current CPR/First Aid Certification.
  • Ability to multi-task, troubleshoot and problem-solve effectively.


Education and Experience

  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • Registered Dental Assistant and Radiology License
  • Valid Coronal Polish Certificate & Sealant license
  • One year of relevant dental clinic experience preferred
