We are looking for a Clinic Attendant/Safety Keeper at our TRUST Health Center in downtown Oakland. This is a full time benefited position. TRUST Health Center’s diverse and unique care team supports health through encouragement, blending medical, mental and social care under one roof. We help people experiencing homelessness in the Bay Area through an intentionally created community where people without their own safe space feel welcomed and accepted. The Clinic Attendant/Safety Keeper will work with a multi-disciplinary provider team in the delivery of general primary care medical services in a community health setting. Under the general supervision of the Center Manager, the Clinic Attendant is responsible for the efficient running of the waiting room and supporting a welcoming and accessible clinic, including maintenance of a safe and peaceful environment, patient intake and flow, cleanliness of waiting room, oversight of clinic donations and clinic hospitality services.

    Responsibilities

    • Maintain a calm and peaceful environment in the waiting room area that is inviting to all.
    • Provides patient de-escalation as needed and mobilizes team to medical or mental health emergencies.
    • Interface with law enforcement as needed during and after an escalation event involving patients.
    • Ensures patient needs are met by other team members and works to reduce wait times.
    • Maintains clean and pleasing appearance of waiting area.
    • Performs other duties as assigned by the Center Manager.

    Qualifications

    • Ability to work effectively and calmly under pressure in a positive, friendly manner
    • Ability to identify escalating situations and intervene appropriately, as well as recognize signs of intoxication in patients
    • Interest and ability to work with patients who have a history of mental illness, substance use and homelessness.
    • Work in a team-oriented environment with a number of professionals with different work styles and support needs.
    • Excellent interpersonal and ability to effectively work with people from diverse backgrounds and be culturally sensitive.

     

    Job Requirements          

    • High school diploma or GED.
    • Administrative experience in health or social service setting.
    • One year previous experience working in a mental health or special needs patient environment preferred.
    • Demonstrated ability and sensitivity to provide services to persons who are disabled, homeless, substance users, and/or psychologically impaired.

     

    Job Preferences

    • Previous experience in working in a community health center preferred.
    • 2 years’ experience with essential duties above.
