Overview

Supporting Community Healthcare is a rewarding role. LifeLong Medical Care is looking for an Eligibility Specialist to be based out of our East Oakland site. 


The ideal candidate has a minimum of two years of experience in a primary care setting, excellent customer service to individuals from varying cultural and ethnic backgrounds and knowledge of low-income insurance programs and enrollment processes. The ability to work some evenings and weekends and access to reliable transportation with current insurance is required. Spanish speaking, Community Health experience and NextGen or eClinicalWorks knowledge a plus!

Responsibilities

As part of the health center front office team, the Eligibility Specialistis responsible for the enrollment of patients into state and county programs. Prepares and submits required eligibility information for all patients, advocates and refers to other programs as appropriate. Maintains statistical records, attends meetings and disseminates information to staff. Performs other duties and projects as assigned.


Essential Functions

• Assists patients in identifying and enrolling in new state and/or county programs.
• Responsible for preparing all eligibility information for each scheduled clinic patient at least two days ahead of the appointed time.
• Acts as advocate between county and patients.
• Assists patients with referrals to CalFresh and other programs.
• Works with front desk staff to ensure that all scheduled and non-scheduled patients are checked for eligibility and that all information is entered accurately and thoroughly.
• Keeps appropriate statistical records.
• Attends all meetings that apply to the eligibility process and shares the information with appropriate clinic personnel. These meetings are typically off-site and may require the use of personal vehicle or other transit.
• Follows up on incomplete applications in OEA and CalHEERS within 30 days.
• Schedules Medi-Cal appointments for patients to meet with On-site Eligibility Workers.
• Takes all classes and test to become a Certified Enrollment Counselor
• Performs other duties and projects as assigned.

Job Requirements

• High school diploma or GED.

• Two years’ experience in a community health care environment or primary care setting.

• Experience with One e-App and Cal-Win

• Knowledge of Medicare, Medi-Cal, HMO and PPO health insurance policies and procedures.

• Proficient in Microsoft office suite, able to type 35 wpm and produce spreadsheets, tables, and flyers.

• Bilingual English/Spanish speaking (may be preferred, dependent on current staff language capabilities).

 

Job Preferences

• NextGen or eClinicalWorks experience.
